Daddy's Little Chipmunk Theodore And Dave Father And Son: The Ultimate Fan Guide

Alvin and the Chipmunks, originally David Seville and the Chipmunks or simply The Chipmunks, are an American animated virtual band and media franchise first created by Ross Bagdasarian for novelty records in 1958. The group consists of three singing animated anthropomorphic chipmunks named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore who are originally managed by their human adoptive father, David "Dave" Seville.

Bagdasarian provided the group's voices by producing sped-up recordings of his own, a technique pioneered on the successful "Witch Doctor". Later in 1957 Bagdasarian released the similarly-engineered "The Chipmunk Song" for which he came up with the chipmunk characters and their human father, attributing the track to them. David Seville and the Chipmunks released several more records over the following decade until Bagdasarian's death in 1972. The franchise was revived in 1979 with the characters' voices provided by his son Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and the latter's wife Janice Karman.

Daddy`s Little Chipmunk Theodore And Dave Father And Son

Dave in the CGI / live-action films can seem more like their manager at times than a father. Throughout Alvin and the Chipmunks, he denies for most of the film that he is their father. By the end of the film, he finally claims that they are family. His role in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel is minor since he is in the hospital for most of the film. Dave is finally seen as more of a father in Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. He talks about setting rules and seems to take more of a disciplined role. He tries taking advice from Simon to give them the chance to prove themselves, which turns out as a disaster. When the chipmunks go overboard, he does everything he can to get them back. By Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Dave changes careers and decides to become a music producer. The career swap leaves no time for the boys to tour and less time for Dave to be involved as a father, but, as a result of uncertainties, Dave finally decides to formally adopt them and cement the idea that they are indeed family.

Ross: Well, my dad wrote the "Witch Doctor" about six months before he wrote "The Chipmunk Song," and in that song he used that sped up voice of the witch doctor, "Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang walla walla, bing bang." So later on, he wanted to incorporate that into a character or characters and he didn't know if they were going to be singing reindeer, singing hippopotamuses, or what. He was driving along near Yosemite by Fresno, where he was born, and thinking, "What are they gonna be?," and as he was driving his car, a little, tiny chipmunk burst in front of the road and really dared my dad and his 4,000 pound car to drive past. And my dad loved the audacity of that character. He had found Alvin, and he knew at that point that that singing voice, that sped up voice, was going to become chipmunks.

A few months later Liberty Records told Ross Sr. that even though the record sold millions, it would only last them for a certain amount of time, so they asked him to come up with another big novelty hit. Ross said, "He loved the sped up voice of the witch doctor and he wanted to marry that up with more personality, more of a character driven situation... He didn't know if he wanted to use a reindeer, elephant, rhinoceros, or what. As he was driving his car through Yosemite National Park, he was trying to think of what kind of animal or insect would be right for that song. Then a little tiny chipmunk darted out into the road in front of my dad's car. It basically dared him to drive past. My dad just loved that kind of audacity, that kind of spunk. That became Alvin. Alvin always had that sort of small man complex... He would not bow down to the authority figure like David Seville. Even though he came up to his ankle, he'd stand up to him."

Alvin, Simon and Theodore are anthropomorphic chipmunks in The Alvin Show and Alvin and the Chipmunks. They have been featured in cartoons, movies and crossovers alongside their adoptive father and manager Dave Seville.

The three perform as a musical troop plying their talents as a sort of high pitched a cappella troop. Their style is considered a success in-universe which has earned them fame, moderate wealth and celebrity status. Their cartoons and movies usually feature at least one song each and generally rely the chipmunks dealing with the pressures of fame or leaning personal life lessons. All three tend to create more than a large fuss for Dave as their manger/surrogate father.

ALVINNN!!! AND THE CHIPMUNKS chronicles the antics of three brothers -- Alvin (voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Jr.), Simon (Bagdasarian again), and Theodore (Janice Karman) -- who just happen to be walking, talking chipmunks and singing sensations, making them big stars in their town and school. Led by the self-confident Alvin, the boys get into all kinds of wild adventures that call for scheming, which is Alvin's special talent, and drive their dad, Dave (Bagdasarian), a little crazy! Their escapades usually involve their chipmunk friends Brittany (Karman again), Jeannette (Karman), and Eleanor (Vanessa Chambers) as well.

NC (vo): So there it is, the final Chipmunk movie. And full disclosure...it is technically the best one, but that's kind of like squirrel shit being better than dog shit. It's still shit. The writing actually has a few good lines, there's better pacing than the other movies, and even with the absence of David Cross, the only funny part of the other films, it still did manage to get a few laughs. But that's the key word: "few". It's still mostly unfunny, unfocused, gimmicky, and all-around pointless. If you got little kids, I guess it's fine to put on as a harmless distraction, but for the rest of us, this is a bit of chipmunk feces we won't be missing anytime soon.

I've got a new assignment. I'm covering your rise to fame. -Oh, this is Alvin, Simon and Theodore. -Hi. -Hello. -Hi, Claire. You're hot. Forgot you guys haven't officially met. So, Dave... ...I'm sorry about that night. I really thought that you-- That I was insane? I totally understand it. Talking chipmunks. It's a lot to take in over dinner. But look at you now. You've got the career, promising future, kids. You're like a family. Don't say family in front of Dave. It gives him gas. -Like, clear-the-room gas. -Does not. He doesn't want a family. Why don't you guys go and play or raid the dessert table? Don't take it personally, you guys. Some people don't know a good thing when they've got it. Right, Dave? Claire. No offense, big guy, but you are not good at this. Hey, what do you think of this? -What is it? -It's Alvin. That looks nothing like Alvin. Well, yeah. It's a prototype. We'll sell a million of these things. It's voice-activated. Here, say something to it. Hello, ugly little Alvin doll that looks nothing like Alvin. -See? You love it. It's Spanish. -You know what? That's just weird. Come on, Dave, Dave, Dave. We've got to expand the Munks' fan base. I mean, forget about the music. The music is but a means to the big money, okay? I'm talking about our own fur clothing line, cologne. -I mean-- -They're just kids. No, they're rats. And they could make us both so much money... -...if you just let me work with them. -I can't hear you, the music's too loud. Don't go against me on this, Dave. I never lose. Has anyone tried the chocolate meatballs? I'll probably go into insulin shock. But it's worth it. Oh, a sweet, sweet, sweet molasses meat. Hey, alvster. Love the song, bro. -Up top. -What's up, player? So I see you're enjoying my little spread that I've put out for you guys. What am I talking about? You probably eat like this all the time. Well, Dave says he doesn't wanna spoil us. Dude, you're a rock star. You're supposed to be spoiled. I mean, you should be riding in limousines and private planes. And you should be going to parties like this every night. really? Because Dave says we need our sleep. Look, Alvin, this is hard to say but, I mean, I gotta be upfront about it. Dave's holding you back, you know. I could be making you 20 large a day. -Is that a lot? -Yes. Another thing-- I'm not gonna tell you. I will tell you. Look, behind your back, Dave Calls you... ...the rats. -Rats? -Yeah. Whatever, right? I know. Well, don't let it bother you. I mean, me? I consider you boys family. And if there's anything you need, anything at all... ...give your uncle Ian a call, all right? -Oh, right. -Ciao.
